Dr. Philans Cosmos Ankrah, PT DPT MPT COMT CDNI LLM MedLaw (Edin)

Early Life:
Dr. Philans Cosmos Ankrah was born in Accra, Ghana, and embarked on a journey that has shaped him into a seasoned and highly qualified physiotherapist.

Professional Journey:
As the CEO of Philanx Health & Rehab in the Cayman Islands, and Philanx Pain & Neurorehab in Dubai, Dr. Philans leads the team with great experience and has several post-graduate qualifications. He holds licenses to practice in the Cayman Islands, in the United Kingdom, and in Dubai (the United Arab Emirates).

Dr. Philans’s clinical experience extends across neurorehabilitation, musculoskeletal, and sports therapy. He has hospital-based, community-based, and private physio OPD-based experiences from Ghana and the UAE and also played a pivotal role as the first ever physiotherapist for the Rugby League Federation Ghana (RLFG-national team level) and head of the medical team on various international assignments, including the 2019 Middle East-Africa Rugby League Championship. His commitment to advancing sports rehab and healthcare is evident as he supports athletes who are members of the Cayman Islands Football Association (CIFA) with both on-field and off-field management of sports injuries.

His extensive training and qualifications across Ghana, Australia, the UK, and Arizona, USA, have exposed him to diverse physiotherapy practices in various clinical settings.

Professional Affiliations and Appointments:
Dr. Philans is CPAM-licensed (Cayman Islands), HCPC-licensed (UK), and DHA-licensed (Dubai Health Authority). He is also affiliated with Primephysio (Dry Needling/Acupuncture & OMT) in the UK and is a dry needling instructor (CDNI). His involvement with the Contact, Help, Advice, and Information Network (CHAIN-NETWORK.ORG.UK) reflects his dedication to staying connected with global healthcare networks and research. Educational Background and Certifications:
Dr. Philans’s academic journey includes a Bachelor of Science in Physiotherapy from the University of Ghana, a neuro-rehabilitation specialization (Master’s level) from Australia, and a Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT) degree from Arizona, USA, where he excelled with a 4.0 GPA.

His commitment to ongoing learning is demonstrated through post-graduate certifications including becoming a Certified Orthopaedic Manual Therapist (Orthopaedic Manual Therapy Academy, UK), Certified Dry Needling Tutor (PrimePhysio in conjunction with Sheffield Hallam University, UK), and Certified Kinesiology Taping Practitioner (Kinesio University, USA).

His interest in dealing with medico-legal issues further motivated him to pursue a law degree in Scotland’s University of Edinburgh law school where he recently graduated (Winter 2025) with a Master of Laws degree in Medical Law & Ethics.

Dr. Philans’s expertise encompasses various physiotherapy disciplines, including neurorehabilitation, orthopedic/musculoskeletal physiotherapy, sports physiotherapy, and geriatric physiotherapy. He has a special interest in managing neurological issues and is a trained robotic neurorehabilitation practitioner. In addition to his well-praised manual therapy skills, he is very familiar with and keeps up with the application of the latest technologies in physiotherapy.
